**Job Summary**

In this role, you will be part of the Software Engineering Standards team working with teams inside Apple and international standards groups to craft the next generation of video and image coding standards.


**Key Qualifications**

* Experienced in video and image coding principles, algorithms, and techniques

* Experienced in video coding standards including H.264, HEVC, and techniques such as HDR

* Experienced in assessing visual quality using both objective metrics and subjective techniques

* Inventive and able to pursue novel ideas and able to refine them, and pursue patents for the interesting ones

* Excellent writing and presentation skills

* Good team player, able to communicate with affected groups across the company and synthesize the best directions into a coherent position

* Experienced with standards work

* Experience with reducing ideas to practice; coding in C/C++, Matlab

* Understanding of hardware-based techniques and able to forge ideas that will work in a hardware implementation

* Experience debugging complex models


**Description**

As a standardization engineer, you will be responsible for working with other teams at Apple to represent us in the international standards community, forging next-generation video and image codecs that will help Apple develop its existing and new businesses. Work with other teams at Apple that develop software or hardware implementations and tools, or use video and image coding as part of a product, evaluate the proposals from other players, and develop proposals from Apple, that will enhance the state of the art for next-generation video coding. Work with those teams to take concepts and refine them into patentable and proposable ideas, reducing the ideas to practice, and evaluate them for compression performance, visual quality, and implementation complexity (in both software and especially in hardware and modern deployments).


**Education**

BS/BEng/MS is required
